Building Stronger Project Teams: How British Land Uses PROPHET to Enhance Collaboration and Performance
Summary:
British Land is a real estate investment trust. It owns, develops, and manages mixed-use properties. Its portfolio of properties includes retail, leisure, residential, and office. In construction, British Land relies on strong collaboration within its project teams, fostering relationships both internally and with external partners. PROPHET has been used to provide insights and development for British Land’s project teams and stakeholders, enhancing team performance and effectiveness.
Use cases
Since 2018, British Land has leveraged PROPHET to drive the success of its project teams. Individual team members complete the PROPHET questionnaire and receive their Individual Profile, while Team Insight Reports provide tailored insights for each project team. Periodically, Organisational Insight Reports are used to offer senior leaders a data-driven approach to linking people insights with commercial impact.
Challenge
Construction projects involve three key teams, each of which must collaborate effectively to ensure success. The Client team leads the development, setting project goals and objectives. The Main Contractor finalises the design and is responsible for delivering the project on schedule, within budget, and safely. The Contractor engages the Supply Chain teams to execute the work in a coordinated manner. These projects are inherently complex, high-pressure, and sometimes adversarial, making strong relationships essential. To achieve high performance quickly, the business needs a solution that strengthens team dynamics—helping individuals understand team culture, recognise their personal contributions, and work together more effectively.
Solution
At the start of a new construction project, all team members complete their profiles and receive their Individual Profile. Project team leaders receive the Team Insight Report, offering development insights and actionable recommendations for team success. At the business level, Organisational Insight reports identify trends and commercial implications across project teams, linking people and relationships to key success factors, joining up the three teams to operate seamlessly.
Results
Since 2018, approximately 20 project teams have benefited from insights to strengthen relationships, support people development, and enhance performance.
